Yasar Kemal (1923-)

Controversial writer who besides from his skills with his pen also took an interest in the Kurdish problem and sharply criticised the government for its way of handling the problem.
As a writer his most famous work is the novel Ince Mehmet (Skinny Mehmet) that tells the story of a poor farmer who revolts against the main farmer of the village. A modern Turkish version of Robin Hood. Yasar Kemal has won prizes for his work in both France and Germany.
