He has the right to veto but if the proposal returns to him several times without being changed the president must approve it – otherwise parliament has the right to demand his resignation.In Turkey the people choose the 550 members of parliament who then select a president. The prime minister can stay in his position for an indefinite period but the president can only remain for one period of seven years. The minimum percentage of votes required for representation is 10%, which makes it difficult for new parties to enter the political arena. |
