Today Antalya is one of 81 regions in Turkey and the regional capital of the same name has about 600,000 inhabitants. The city is well situated round a bay with a view to the sea as well as to the mountains. The old town is well worth a visit. There you can stroll in a large park, see charming Turkish houses and much much more. In this old part you will also find the pretty harbour area. The symbol of Antalya is the ribbed minaret called Yivli Minare (Truncated Minaret) dating back to the 14th century. As well as this, the archaeological museum, Hadrian's Gate and the market are all interesting places to visit. About 10 kilometres east of the city are two wonderful waterfalls, Kursunlu and Düden. |
